On August 19, the Government of Liberia established a quarantine for the West Point community in Monrovia, and for Dolo Town in Margibi County due to confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease. The quarantine restricts movement in or out of these areas. U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the quarantined areas. The Government of Liberia has also implemented a 9pm-6am curfew for all areas. U.S. citizens should remain vigilant and adhere to the curfew.
U.S. citizens who decide to travel to or remain in Liberia despite the Department’s existing Travel Warning for Liberia should be sure to provide their current contact information through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Liberia. For additional information, refer to the Traveler’s Checkliston the State Department’s website.
