Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Potential Evictions, Possible Riots in Gardnersville Township

The U.S. Embassy has received reports of  possible evictions scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2015.  These may take place in Gardnersville Township in the area around the refinery at L.P.R. Compound on Somalia Drive.  These events have the potential to lead to protests or possible riots.  There could be a strong likelihood of crowds and traffic congestion in and around that area.

This area should be avoided when or if these evictions take place. Please use extreme caution if you need to travel in the vicinity.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at www.Travel.State.Gov. STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

You can stay in touch and get Embassy updates by checking the U.S. Embassy Monrovia website. You can also get global updates at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs website where you can find the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warning, Travel Alerts, and Country Specific Information. Follow us on Twitter and the Bureau of Consular Affairs page on Facebook to have travel information at your fingertips.
