Security Alert – U. S. Embassy Monrovia, Liberia (June 5, 2021)
Event: The U.S. Embassy in Monrovia has received a report that Liberian Emergency Response Units are responding to a security incident involving firearms near the former Liberian social security center near 14th Street and Tubman Boulevard. There is no indication the situation involves or is directed at American citizens, however, Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid the area until the situation is clear.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the areas surrounding the demonstration locations. Even peaceful demonstrations may turn violent.
- Avoid large crowds.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Keep a low profile.
