Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Monrovia, Liberia (August 1, 2022)
Location: Monrovia, Liberia
Event: The U.S. Embassy has been informed that a student protest group plans to demonstrate throughout Mamba Point and the Capitol Hill area starting today, August 1, 2022 at 1000hrs.
According to the group’s press release, the protest will start at the University of Liberia on Tubman and UN Drive, then visit the Ministry of Justice, the Capitol and Executive Mansion, the EU Compound and U.S. Embassy Monrovia on Benson Street.
Everyone should expect increased traffic, possible roadblocks and increased police presence which could impact travel.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the areas surrounding the demonstration locations. Even peaceful demonstrations may turn violent.
- Avoid large crowds.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Keep a low profile.
