Location: Central Monrovia and Mamba Point areas.
Event: The U.S. Embassy has received reports of civil disturbance in central Monrovia and in the vicinity of Mamba Point. There is a heavy police presence moving in the direction of Mamba Point, and there have been teargas and a water cannon fired at demonstrators. Embassy personnel are instructed to remain in place until the situation stabilizes.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the areas of the demonstration; even events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Exercise caution if you are unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Keep a low profile.
