On December 16 at Edward Binyah Kesselly Barracks, representatives from the U.S. Embassy’s Defense Attaché Office transferred a GeneXpert System machine to the Armed Forces of Liberia.
The GeneXpert machine is a molecular diagnostics system used for testing of critical infectious diseases including the Ebola Zaire virus and SARS-CoV-2 – the virus causing COVID-19.
The $170,000 GeneXpert system will directly benefit the Armed Forces of Liberia – A Force for Good – and the people of Liberia in our continued efforts against infectious diseases.
The GeneXpert System was provided by the United States Department of Defense, U.S. Embassy Monrovia Office of Security Cooperation, and Joint West Africa Research Group who work with the implementing partner Africabio and the Armed Forces of Liberia to combat infectious diseases, to include COVID-19, in Liberia and West Africa.
Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché LTC Matt Alden noted, “We look forward to continuing to work with the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia, our partners for good.”
